what you need to know about hit rating and expertise |
|
alright so figured it wouldnt hurt to throw this up here so that future members can see just what they will need in terms of hit rating and expertise
i will start with expertise
it takes 32.79 points of expertise rating to equal 4 expertise which boils down to 1% reduced chance to be dodged (1 expertise is equal to 0.25%)
as melee dps the goal is to reach the soft cap for expertise which is:
26 expertise
(about 214 expertise rating)
keep in mind certain classes have talents that boost their expertise so refer to your talent tree and look through your talents to see if you have a boost
now for hit rating
it takes 32.79 rating per 1%
i will start with the hit cap for special attacks
to make sure your special attacks never miss you will need
263 hit rating
(8% increased chance to hit)
once again some classes have talents that boost their chance to hit so keep this in mind when you start stacking hit
the hit cap for single wield or two handed weapons is also
263
(8% increased chance to hit)
lucky badtards dont have to stack any higher than 263 as past that point it becomes useless
as for Dual-wield its different
it is still 263 hit rating to make it so that your special attacks dont miss
as for your auto attacks though (your white damage) it is
886 hit rating
(27% increased chance to hit)
yup we got shafted, so it is up to you just how high you want to stack your hit as it is nearly impossible with the gear out atm to reach the hit cap
i have heard that anywhere between 9% - 15% is what most strive for
and thats what you need to know about hit rating and expertise

It's actually 9% for two handers, one-handed, and yellow hits. There used to be a 1% innate chance which you couldn't get rid of with hit rating, but they changed it so you can get the full 9% I do believe. The hit rating you would strive for in this scenario with no hit talents is 296.
As for Dual Wield, I don't know as much, but I thought it used to be 24%, but 27% could easily be it.
Spellhit cap is 17%, which equals 445 hit rating with no talents. This is generally what enhancement shamans aim for as well.
That's all I can think of to add! Great report here to check out!

I stand corrected for the two handers, one-hander+shield and yellow hits - it is 8%, which is 264. I even had it written down for my warrior and I completely forgot haha. There is still a 1% innate miss chance for melee I believe and it can't be removed. Spellcasters, on the other hand, can get rid of their 1%, so they still need 445 without talents, which will equal 17%.
I don't have a clue where I got 296 at.
